A Review of Recent Exploration Drilling
1 December 2016

An evaluation of the Triassic play in the Central Graben HPHT province by Exploration Geosciences in 2005 identified considerable untested exploration potential. Several of the structures identified in this study were subsequently drilled, proving significant hydrocarbon reserves, and also demonstrating some of the key exploration risks in this province, not only for Triassic but also for Middle and Upper Jurassic objectives. This article summarises the history of the HPHT play in this area, reviews the results of wells drilled on the 2005 prospect inventory and discusses the key exploration issues. The remaining potential, as demonstrated by published data on HPHT prospects is also discussed.
