The Northern Rockall Trough and Adjacent Basins

During 2015 WesternGeco, on behalf of OGA, acquired 8,896 km of broadband 2D data covering the eastern and western flanks of the Rockall Trough and several Triassic and Jurassic rift basins along the eastern margin, including the West Flannan and West Lewis basins. These data, incorporated with 1,117 km of 2D broadband data acquired by WesternGeco and other legacy 2D seismic is now available to the industry to stimulate exploration in this frontier area. In this article we review the structural setting and petroleum potential (reservoir and source development and source maturity) of the northern Rockall area, reviewing exploration history and well results, including the Benbecula gas discovery.
